Race These Lagoons

Sunday, September 22 is your chance to run the gorgeous paths along the Ko Olina lagoons while they are dedicated to athletes: No strollers inching down the path, or gawking visitors blocking the way.

The Race Ko Olina also comes with a special offer—athletes get a special room rate at the Four Seasons Ko Olina. It’s one of the lowest rates they offer all year.

All you have to do is race—or get someone in your family to.

Your race options are:

  • Sprint Triathlon (including relay option)
  • 10K run
  • 5K run
  • Aquathlon and/or 1K for kids.

The room rates are $320.00 for a Garden View room, and $335.00 for an ocean view room. Four Seasons has reserved a limited number of rooms at the special rate, so if you’re interested, book right away. Call 808-679-0079, and let them know you’re part of Race Ko Olina.

You’ll have an additional cost, of course, for running the races. The 10K and 5K are $45 each; the sprint triathlon $125 ($135 for a relay team). You can register here. Registration fees support Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women and Children.

Race Ko Olina — Triathlon

This is an official USA Triathlon event: A 600-meter swim, 12-mile bike ride, and 5K run.

The swimming course is just—start at Lagoon 1, swim to Lagoon 2, and come back. The calm lagoon waters will be a nice intro for any beginning triathlete.

The 12-mile bicycle portion of the triathlon goes out onto the H1, to Kalaeloa and back.

Then you’ll join the runners for the running leg of the event. The running event is slightly different this year. Instead of just looping around the lagoons, the route goes out along Aliʻinui Drive and back. This is the 5K route, the 10K route is two loops of it.

The finish line for all the races fronts Lagoon One. This is where the keiki events will happen, so the zone will be dedicated to family fun. After you run, reunite with the fam and enjoy live music together. Or, let the keiki play on the water slide while you eat food prepared by Four Seasons’ Executive Chef Richard Polhemus.
