This is the Mother’s Day to splurge on a fancy dinner if Mom loves gourmet seafood or fine wine. Two Ko Olina restaurants have special menus that will wow her.
Sample the World’s Best Seafood @ Roy’s Ko Olina ($80 per person)
Roy’s Ko Olina will open at 10:30 on Mother’s Day and present an all-day prix fixe menu. The meal starts with the incredible trio of fish you see above:
- House-smoked organic King salmon
- Japanese bluefin tuna
- Tristan de Cuhna lobster medallions
The bluefin tuna is coming direct from Japan. Bluefin is maybe the most sought-after fish in the world. It has a smooth texture and incredible flavor thanks to superior fat content. At a January 2019 fish auction, one bluefin tuna sold for $3.1 million.
Roy’s Ko Olina Executive Chef Darryl Shinogi worked with Honolulu’s Tropic Fish Hawaiʻi to arrange a special order of bluefin for west side moms.
The Tristan de Cuhna lobster is also a unique treat. The lobster lives in the cold, pristine waters around Tristan de Cuhna, the most remote inhabited island in the world. Shinogi acquires the lobster raw, not frozen, which preserves the tenderness of the meat. Lobster that’s frozen and then cooked can have a stringy texture, he says. Shinogi’s preparation makes for a smooth, delectable bite.
The fish are garnished with local pea shoots, and edible flowers from a farm in Mililani.
Once you enjoy this incredible first course, you’ll move on to the soup. Shinogi is making a Normandy saffron mussel broth. It’s a classic French preparation, using a blend of vegetables that lend the unmistakeable bright color.
Next you’d enjoy the entree. The total price of the meal is around $80 (the exact cost depends on which entree you choose). Most of Roy’s traditional dinner menu will be available, along with a few specials. If you liked the Tristan de Cunha lobster, you can get it again. Or, enjoy the tuna in a Niçoise salad.

Wine Lovers’ Delight @ Mina’s Fish House ($95 per person, $150 with optional wine pairing)
If mom is a wine connoisseur, the unique pairings devised by the Mina’s Fish House sommelier will make Sunday a day to remember forever.
But what will really make this Mother’s Day special is the wine pairings with each dish. You’ll have your choice of one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert. Each selection comes with a recommended wine pairing.
For example, the Black Garlic & Miso Black Cod (one of the restaurant’s standouts) comes with Domaine Diochon ‘Moulin-à-Vent’ Gamay, a strong-flavored Beaujolais from one of the oldest wineries in the region.

And the “PB & J” dessert, a peanut butter mousse paired with chocolate crunch and a strawberry sorbet, comes with Ramos Pinto Port Superior Tawny Port, an oak-barrel-aged dessert wine.
