A New Farm-to-Table Kapolei Restaurant Opens, Despite Coronavirus Crisis

A unique farm-to-table Thai restaurant is now open at Ka Makana Aliʻi. S&S Thai Kitchen serves traditional Thai and Laotian dishes — all made with fresh produce from the S&S family farm. Approximately 70% of their produce is organic.

The menu includes all of the classic Thai restaurant dishes: Pad Thai, Pad See Yew, a variety of curry dishes, and stir-fries. All entrees have set prices, based on your choice of:

  • Vegetable and/or tofu ($12.99)
  • Chicken, beef, or pork ($13.99)
  • Seafood, shrimp, or fish ($14.99)

S&S Thai Kitchen also offers these tasty-sounding specialty entrees:

  • Steamed whole fish with lime juice ($32.99)
  • Fried whole fish with spicy sauce ($32.99)
  • Ginseng whole chicken soup ($18.99)

Owner Jason Vongprachanh and his family have had a farm in Kahuku since 2010, where they grow cucumbers, long beans, papaya, banana, tomatoes, basil, squash, eggplant,

lemongrass, galangal, lime, mint, green onion, and cilantro.

“Almost every dish uses vegetables from our farm,” he told me. “The dishes that use the most are Drunken Noodle, Pad Krapao, and the curries.” Vongprachanh also owns a stall at Shirokiya Village Walk in Ala Moana Mall, which opened in 2016.

As a grand opening special, S&S Thai Kitchen is offering 10% off every order through Saturday, May 9. You can order online, or via phone at 808-670-2724.

The restaurant is in the former Da Cove space, next door to Koa Pancake House on the mauka side of the theater wing of Ka Makana Aliʻi. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-9pm, Sundays from 10am-8pm.
