Today's Supporting Sponsor: Kapolei Lofts | Studio-living in the heart of Kapolei
Kapolei’s Costco is on the western edge of town, at the intersection of Kapolei Parkway and Kamokila Boulevard. Costco first came to Hawai’i in 1988. The Kapolei warehouse opened on February 27, 2009.
The warehouse opens at 10 am everyday except Saturdays, when it opens at 9:30 am.
The Kapolei Costco closes at 8:30pm on weekdays, 6 pm on weekends.
The main warehouse has just about everything you need for everyday living, from televisions to clothes to fresh produce. The walk-in dairy case is stocked floor to ceiling with eggs and milk. The beer, wine, and liquor selection is very good.
We try to shop at locally-owned stores like Tamura’s and Foodland, but if we’re throwing a big party we’ll stock up on beer and chips and stuff at Costco to save money.
You have to be a member to buy nearly everything at Costco, but a few of their services anyone can use. Costco membership is $55/year, plus sales tax. If you shop there a lot you can upgrade to Executive membership for $55/year more, which gives you a 2% reward on most things you buy there.
Every Costco has tons of food, plus the draw of delicious samples, but not every store has exactly the same extra services. The Kapolei Costco has most of the popular ones:
Costco gas is usually cheaper than gas at regular stations. The gas station is at the far western edge of the parking lot.
The gas station opens earlier than the store: 5:30 am on weekdays, and 6 am on the weekends. It closes later, too—9:30 pm on weekdays, 8 pm on Saturdays, at 7:30 pm on Sundays.
The food court has pizza, hot dogs, and rotisserie chicken. It’s up by the checkout stands. It has the same hours as the store.
You can get a free appointment at a Costco Hearing Aid Center to determine what kind of hearing aid you need (if you need one at all). Costco also offers free loss and damage insurance for hearing aids you buy there.
The hearing aid center has the same hours as the store.
The pharmacy keeps different hours than the store: 10am-7pm on weekdays, 9:30am-6pm on Saturdays. Sunday, the pharmacy is closed.
Costco will also mail prescriptions to you if you have recurring ones.
You don’t have to be a Costco member to use their pharmacy, but if you are a member you’ll likely pay less.
At Costco Optical departments you can get eye exams and buy glasses and contact lenses. Anyone can use the optical shop, but, again, members will pay less for what they buy. The Optical Department keeps the same hours as the store, but you’ll want to call ahead to make an appointment.
Tire Service Center
Tires are usually cheaper at Costco than at tire shops. You can pick out what you need at the service folks will install them for you.
