Nimitz Beach is in Kalaeloa, on the south shore of Oahu. Parking is free. Just pull off Coral Sea Road, which runs parallel to the shore, and park along the side of the road.
It’s a beautiful spot. I proposed to my wife here! (With her family hiding in some nearby bushes, waiting to rush out and surprise her.) So it will always have special memories for me.
This is a no-frills beach: No bathrooms, no water fountains, no concessions, no lifeguard, limited shade. BYO-everything.
Because of this, it’s less crowded than most of the area’s beaches. If you feel comfortable packing what you need, you’ll have a terrific time. There are garbage cans to throw away your trash when you leave.
Waves typically aren’t very large, so while it’s not the best for surfing, it’s good for kids. Be aware that the ocean floor can be rocky, depending on where you happen to be on the beach.
There aren’t any hourly restrictions to being on the beach, so it’s a popular place for late night bonfires and sleeping under the stars.
